Thursday 10 October 2022, London, UK Jaguar and Attitude magazine have partnered to amplify the break‑through stories of celebrated queer creatives who live unapologetically in their creative fields.
Manchester‑born Layton Williams tells the story of how he became the first black queer actor to perform as the iconic Billy Elliot in London’s West End musical stage show at the tender age of 12, taking on the industry’s stereotypes and carving out a new ‘norm’ for young actors.
Layton was joined in Palm Springs for the content series, by fashion designer Daniel W. Fletcher, also known in his industry for setting a new standard for diversity and inclusion.
Fletcher, who graduated from Central Saint Martins in London, spoke about his first steps in the fashion business, specifically, how his fledgling collection became instantly desirable when a certain Harry Styles bought the entire line of shirts.
The video series captures the creatives reflecting on the role of authenticity and how their individuality has catapulted them to success in their respective careers. Layton highlighted that he “probably had to work a little harder”, whilst Daniel expressed his happiness that younger people today have much more representation in the media, making it easier to come out and be comfortable in themselves.
Their takeaway? Dare to stand out and embrace who you really are.
