IN DETAIL
(Whitley, Coventry ─ 06 February 2014) British GQ has joined forces with Editorial Intelligence to reveal 'The 100 Most Connected,' the men marking this century's new cornerstone of influence: Networks, Connections and Ideas. A panel of experts including Jaguar Advanced Design Director Julian Thomson gathered to launch 'The 100 Most Connected' at London's Groucho Club last night, to debate and celebrate the role of 'Connectivity' in the modern era. The 100 Most Connected list is featured in the March 2014 issue of GQ, on newsstands in the UK from today.
Dylan Jones, Editor of GQ, commented: "The era of traditional, topdown power is over; connection is the new influence, and today's achievers operate via a free flowing exchange of ideas, using social media and personal networks to create value and understanding. In recognition of this we decided to partner with Editorial Intelligence, the knowledge networking business, to co‑curate a list bringing together those who embody the power of ideas today in a circle of connections rather than a top‑down Who's Who. Surely this is the first list to include both Charles Windsor and Peter Tatchell side‑by‑side, as well as Ed Miliband's brother David and Spin Doctor Tom Baldwin, but not the Labour Leader himself."
Julia Hobsbawm, founder of Editorial Intelligence and Honorary Visiting Professor in Networking at Cass Business School, London, remarked: "Networks and networking ‑ who and what you know ‑ is the new sphere of influence. We created a new set of definitions ‑ a new social ranking ‑ for this list and have come up with five that we hope will be a benchmark for the future. Women's networks arguably get more recognition these days than men's but this list is less of an Old Boy Network and more of the New Connected Men Network instead."
Julian Thomson, Jaguar Advanced Design Director, said: "The brief to my Advanced Design team is to research trends and tastes among luxury product consumers in multiple markets worldwide. What we learn helps us shape the concepts we create for cars that may not launch for a decade yet.
"The Design team at Jaguar no longer consists of just automotive experts. We now have designers that are skilled and educated in fashion, textiles, architecture and other diverse disciplines. To truly innovate, we have to make new connections and ensure we stay ahead of the evolving tastes of discerning consumers.
"Our partnership with GQ and Editorial Intelligence is significant as it supports our desire to innovate and reach new audiences."
The 100 Most Connected five rankings created are: Connector, Influencer, Socialite, Spider, and Leader, and span politics, public spirit and public life; sport; biz & tech; media and publishing; PRs and agents; and culture, art & food.
